February 14, 1955. It all began when WFLA-TV / CHANNEL 8 went on the air for the first time with a special LIVE broadcast of the Gasparilla Parade.

Two weeks later, Channel 8, Tampa Bay's first VHF and oldest-continuing TV station, began a full 18 hour broadcast day. The ambitious schedule featured an incredible 110 live productions weekly.

An NBC affiliate for over 45 years, the pride, enthusiasm & commitmentr to community service which typified WFLA-TV's early yearscontinues to this day. 8 IS ON YOUR SIDE!
